Konftel started its operations way back in 1988 when a bank manager from Umea Sweden was in search of the ideal conference phone system for their new offices. The bank manager hired the help of Peter Renkel, who was an electrical consultant at that time and is currently the CEO of Konftel. That time, even Renkel found it hard to find an excellent conference system for the bank and even asked the help of John-Erik Eriksson, a friend in the same field. Renkel and Eriksson in the end decided to simply create a conference phone system for the bank manager and surprisingly produced great results.
