Avaya S8300/S8400 CD/DVD ROM Drive RHS (700406267) is an external USB CD/DVD-ROM drive that technicians must use to install software on the Avaya S8300-Series and S8400-Series Servers. The three external USB CD/DVD-ROM drives that support these servers include the Panasonic Digistor, TEAC, and Addonics. Both the TEAC CD/DVD reader (Comcode: 700289580) and Addonics CD/DVD reader (Model: AEPDVRWII824) are no longer available for purchase. You can purchase the Avaya approved Panasonic Digistor models - 73082 or 73322 under Comcode: 700406267.

To connect the Panasonic CD/DVD-ROM drive (700406267) to the S8300 or S8400 Server, the switch must be turned to the ON position. After that, connect the USB cable to the USB port on the faceplate of the server and the other end of the USB cable to the CD/DVD-ROM drive. Then, place the Avaya Communication Manager CD-ROM into the external CD/DVD-ROM drive.

The Panasonic Digistor (700406267) uses Lithium ION battery for additional power, instead of AC power. USB 2.0 readers draw more power than the standard USB ports that are available on the S8300/S8400 Servers can supply. The Digistor drive contains an internal Lithium ION battery that makes up the current difference between what the USB port can provide and what the CD/DVD-ROM drive requires. The battery must be fully charged for the drive to operate properly. When the battery is depleted and the drive attempts to operate, the red LED on the top of the case will light and a "failed to mount cdrom" message appears on the laptop screen. Plug the CD-ROM drive in a USB port for approximately 30 minutes to charge the battery. It will charge faster if the ON/OFF switch is set to OFF. Keep the switch OFF until you are ready to use the Digistor drive to preserve the battery.
